Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.

The ACA is Here to Stay, chanted supporters of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) outside of the Supreme Court on June 25. They were referring to the second significant victory for the ACA in three years.

The most recent ruling raises the odds for ACA’s survival but by no means ends the legal and political assaults on it five years after it became law, says NPR.

At Minnesota Health Insurance Agency (MHIA), we are pleased to see this law has staying power. This means there is less trepidation and more willingness for individuals to invest the time to review and understand their options. There’s a growing acceptance of ACA. People are beginning to sway more positive and believe that the state of health care insurance is improving and providing them more affordable options.

“Congress passed the Affordable Care Act to improve health insurance markets, not to destroy them. If at all possible we must interpret the Act in a way that is consistent with the former, and avoids the latter,” said Supreme Court Justice John Roberts. With that said, MHIA has rolled with the changes through this somewhat uncertain time to continue to provide Minnesotans with the most thorough overview of their options and our interpretation of what the law means for them.

“The 6-3 ruling stopped a challenge that would have eliminated subsidies in at least 34 states for individuals and families buying insurance through the federal government’s online marketplace,” states the NPR report. “Such a result would have made coverage unaffordable for millions and created price spirals for those who kept their policies, many experts predicted.”

Since the ACA’s original passing by the Supreme Court on June 28, 2012, MHIA has tracked with all of the national changes, interpretations and followed the Minnesota healthcare provider responses and rate fluctuations. We have a whole host of tools and knowledge to help you navigate a health insurance plan that fits you, your family and your business.
